Eurodans.net
Conceived of and coordinated by Sita Popat, Eurodans.net investigated the choreographic process aided by novel custom-built online tools. Students of ten European higher education institutions rehearsed in their respective countries and shared their rehearsal process by means of a custom-designed web-site with innovative features (which later became known as blogs). The project resulted in a final presentation at the ELIA (European League of Institutes of Arts) conference and was choreographed by Wayne McGregor.
Stephan collaborated as a researcher and rehearsal director for two Portuguese institutions. In this role, he developed choreographic material collaboratively with the students, filmed rehearsals, edited the videos and created blog-like entries on the Eurodans.net website.
In Popat’s previous project TRIAD (Transatlantic Real Time Interactive Dance Project, 2001), Stephan had collaborated with a group of Portuguese dancers. 40 dance students from the U.K., U.S. and Portugal participated in this online dance project lead by Popat to discuss their choreographic processes and present their work by means of a final telematic performance. Popat has published a book about her innovative work: “Invisible Connections - dance, choreography and internet communities”.
